More than a year after a bomb blast destroyed a jeep in Garibaldi Highlands, Squamish RCMP is still investigating the incident.

The botched hit attempt was meant to target an individual known to the police, but he escaped unhurt from the incident.

The blast happened on Nov. 22, 2011, gutting the 1998 Cherokee jeep parked in the drive way of a Skyline Drive home.

A month before the blast, the Garibaldi Estate neighbourhood had also been rattled by a drive-by shooting on Tantalus Road near the Spectacle building.

No charges have yet been laid on either of these incidents, although the police has ascertained the chemical used to blast the jeep, said RCMP Staff Sgt. Guy Pollock.

Pollock said he could not reveals the nature of material used to blast the jeep.

“We are still investigating the incident,” Sgt. Pollock said.

Police is offering a reward of $2,000 to anyone who can provide any information which leads to an arrest and charge. Anyone with information on this incident can contact the Squamish RCMP detachment or call Crime Stoppers.
