The District of Squamish has announced the promotion of Chris Bishop to director of planning and building.
Bishop joined the district as an experienced planner in 2006 and has been acting manager of the department since June 2010.
In his new role, he will lead the planning and building department, and work with other departments to implement the Official Community Plan.
He will also manage the district involvement in development projects.
“Mr. Bishop is a great asset to the Squamish community,” said Mayor Rob Kirkham.
“He has extensive knowledge in municipal planning and has proven leadership skills that the District will continue to benefit from.”
Bishop was instrumental implementing recommendations from the Core Services Review for Planning, Building and Development Services, including hiring a new chief building inspector and development service clerks in 2012.
The increased focus on providing excellent customer service has resulted in continuous improvement to processes, Kirkham said.
He has also played a key role in the Community Energy Action Plan and downtown revitalization projects, he added.
