Twilight vampires sucked blood out of each other, but they managed to breathe new life in Squamish as a viable location for a movie shoot.

As many as 12 movies have been shot in Squamish so far, according to the district of Squamish.

Released in October last year, The Big Year was shot primarily in Squamish.

Three more film shootings have been confirmed for this year.

Five scouts are looking at separate locations in Squamish for upcoming projects.

After Twilight, Squamish residents can spot local hangouts in The Big Year, a movie that stars Steve Martin, Jack Black, and Owen Wilson as competing birders.

The movie didn’t do very well at the box office, but you can still enjoy spotting the Squamish River dike and estuary on the screen.

To support movie shoots locally, the B.C. government is giving the district a $5000 grant.

STAN CLARKE PARK 40 PER CENT COMPLETE

The district also reports that upgrade to Stan Clarke Park is 40 per cent complete.

The park is expected to open in the first week of September.

The park is being designed to reflect an inclusive play experience that provides upper and lower body physical exercise, and opportunities for social and imaginative play.

The equipment comprises of high quality components, stainless steel attaching hardware and high quality paint finishes.

Until the park is closed, residents can either use nearby Pavilion Park.

Residents can also use the Eagle Wind Park, with entrance located at the north end of 6th Avenue.

The district will provide updates and details as they are confirmed.
