My feeble memory tells me that sometime in the 80’s , a female Japanese climber fell to her death , reported cause “old rope broke”.

Am I right , and was that the last one before this week?

Two other deaths before the woman last weekend. The woman you refer to from the 80s was Grace (Wong I believe). She was Japanese Canadian, and a committed climber. Back then, we were all working at MEC, taking as much time off as we could to chase our climbing dreams. She was a smart climber, but for some reason that fateful day decided to jug up Pan Wall on a single half rope, which ended up cutting through over an edge.
Ben Demenech, another talented young climber, slipped and fell to his death 3rd classing up the Sheriffs Badge approach route in summer 2001. We were first on scene at the base of the wall, and I will never forget that day.
