The new Tim Hortons on Garibaldi Way will open on November 1.

“It’s a pretty firm date, but there is always a chance it could move up and down a few days,” said owner Dean Terry.

Terry said the new Tim Hortons would have a double drive through, which will help speed up service.

“It’s good for efficiency and speed,” he said.

In addition, the store would also have a Cold Stone Creamery Menu available.

While Tim Hortons open in November, customer of CIBC will have to wait longer. [manual_related_posts]

CIBC is expected to open in early 2014, but there is no firm date yet, said Caroline Van Hasselt, a CIBC spokesperson.

She also said the staffing for the branch hasn’t been finalized yet, but more details on local hiring would be shared as the information becomes  available.

Readers will recall the proposal for a second Tim Hortons led to an intense debate in and outside the council chambers last year.

Coun. Susan Chapelle opposed the motion to give third reading to the restaurant, while Coun. Patricia Heintzman grudgingly stamped her approval, their concerns centred on drive-through and fast food nature of the business.

Others in the council, such as Couns. Doug Race and Ron Sanders, supported the proposal, saying it would revive an empty lot, create jobs in the community and spur economic development.

Dean Terry, who owns both locations, didn’t want to comment on last year’s debates in the council.

“We are really excited about our new store,” he said.
