Fire Crews Battle Human-Caused Wildfire in Elaho Valley

June 15, 2015 10:31am

Reports from the Wildfire Management Branch indicate that the fire at Elaho Valley is approximately 15 to 20 hectares in size, and appears to have been human caused. Resources devoted to the fire include 22 crew, two fallers and two helicopters. The wildfire began in the Elaho Valley on Sunday, June 14.

The fire is a long way from Squamish and there is no risk to the community, said district spokesperson Christina Moore. She said the smoke throughout Squamish is being funneled down the Elaho and Squamish valleys due to inversion. Periodic increases in smoke should be expected throughout the day

Official information bulletins are expected from the Wildfire Management Branch and Vancouver Coastal Health.
