Squamish Local Miranda Miller is Downhill Mountain Biking World Champion

September 12, 2017 9:49am

Be proud, Squamish !

Squamish local Miranda Miller is the new downhill mountain biking world champion. She scored the gold medal at the elite downhill title at the mountain bike world championships.

“It’s pretty crazy,” said Miller. “I don’t think it has sunk in yet. I feel like I had some luck on my side, but I’ll take it. It’s pretty cool. I’m sure in a couple days it will feel a bit different,” she told the CBC.

Myriam Nicole won silver and Australia’s Tracey Hannah won the bronze model, while Canadian Vaea Verbeeck placed 16th. Defending champion Rachel Atherton of Britain broke her collarbone and did’t compete.
On her Facebook page, Miller said the best part of the day would have to be the interactions with all her competitors.

“Everyone had a story to tell that day and they showed such genuine happiness for me even if their day didn’t go as they planned.”
