Search teams working to recover bodies of three people who fell from Shannon Falls

July 3, 2018 7:30pm

The bodies of three people who fell from the top of the Shannon Falls pool have been located.

The RCMP and Squamish SAR are working to recover the bodies in an ‘extremely difficult and dangerous terrain,’ according to Cpl Sascha Banks of Squamish RCMP.

“The water flow will be heavy with the warm temperatures today, increasing the risk to those in the recovery effort.”

Specialized RCMP and SAR teams are already on site this morning. Until the joint operation is completed Shannon Falls and any trails leading to the pool system at the top of Shannon Falls are closed to the public.

Three people went missing yesterday after they fell from one of the pools at the top of the Shannon Falls.

On July 3, 2018, at 11:55 pm Squamish RCMP received a call from BC Ambulance regarding three people who were swimming in one of the pools at the top of Shannon Falls.

The individuals were with a group of friends when they slipped and fell into a pool 30 metres below.

Squamish Search and Rescue (SAR), Lions Bay SAR, BC Ambulance, Squamish Fire, TEAAM, BC Parks, and Squamish RCMP are working on the search efforts.

“SAR teams, multiple Helicopter Units, and RCMP have been working in all capacities to locate the three people”  stated Corporal Sascha Banks.

They were not able to locate the missing people by this evening. The difficult terrain and heavy water flow is complicating the search, Banks said.

Efforts to locate the three will continue overnight into tomorrow when additional specialized RCMP and SAR teams will be on site.

Families of those missing are currently being contacted and the RCMP will not be releasing the names at this time
