Wildlife Alert issued over Grizzly bear sightings in Squamish

August 2, 2018 1:23pm

WILDLIFE ALERT: The District of #Squamish and the Conservation Officer Service would like to alert the public about two sightings of a grizzly bear on the evening of August 1st.

The sightings occurred in the area along the confluence of the Mamquam and Squamish Rivers and south along the Squamish River dike and estuary.

At this time, the area will not be closed but the location and situation is being monitored very closely and updates will be provided as new information becomes available.

In order to ensure a safe outcome for both the public and the grizzly bear, the District of Squamish and the Conservation Officer Service are asking the public to exercise a high level of caution in the area. Dogs must be on leash and it is advised that people do not bike or run in the area. Do not walk alone.

Please call any bear sightings to the Conservation Officer Service 24/7 Hotline: 1.877.952.7277 (RAPP)
