Alanna Gillis has announced she is seeking a seat on the council. She holds a master’s in public policy from Simon Fraser University.
Squamish is a rapidly growing community facing complex challenges, she says.
“Depending on who I speak to, I get a different take on what the priorities should be. What is missing in many of the conversations I’ve been having lately about affordable housing, infrastructure investment, growth, development and transportation is what is at stake — our humanity.
She has experience as a senior leader in regulatory services and regulatory compliance and has had the opportunity to work as a public servant in energy and health care regulation, leading teams, building departments and learning about public process and government.
“I’ve been part of consulting teams working with municipalities on asset and facility management, sustainable community development and a project to assess capital needs to maintain existing social housing stock in Canada,” she says.
“If I get elected I want it to be because I’ve been radically honest. I want to come into this acknowledging I am just beginning my journey of learning about all the challenges (and opportunities) we face in a local context. I have so much to learn. And I am committed, standing with two feet in.”
