Environment Canada has issued a significant weather notification for the South Coast of B.C., including Howe Sound, beginning Sunday, November 25.
Currently, 50 to 150 mm of rain is expected between Sunday evening and Tuesday afternoon.
“A series of intense November impulses will arrive on the BC South Coast beginning Sunday night. Strong winds will be the main threat especially for areas adjacent to the Strait of Georgia, and the west coast of Vancouver Island.
Rain at times heavy will begin on the outer coast Sunday night and over the Lower Mainland early Monday morning. There remains some uncertainty to the rainfall totals of this approaching system due to the strong upper level flow. Areas at risk of rainfall warnings include parts of Metro Vancouver and western Fraser Valley especially near the mountains, Howe Sound and portions of Vancouver Island.”
Strong south-easterly winds of 70-90 km/h are expected along exposed coastal sections on Sunday evening and Monday.
The BC River Forecast Centre is monitoring the situation closely; High Streamflow Advisories may be issued as the situation evolves.
Please exercise caution around waterways and watch for possible washouts near rivers, creeks and culverts.
