DOS aims for speedy snow removal with new machine

Let it snow—District of Squamish is prepared, especially with a new machine.

DOS purchased the machine last year and it has proven to increase the speed and efficiency of snow and ice removal, said DOS communications coordinator, Rachel Boguski.

Bosguski said DOS first used the machine in early January to clear remaining snow on active transportation routes.

This is the kind of machine the DOS bought last year for speedy and efficient snow removal.

The machine, she said, will be used throughout the season on those critical routes as well as sidewalks.

The new machine is a heavy duty, narrow (around 48” wide) machine that can easily fit on trails and sidewalks.

It also has a flail mower, plow, sander as well as a broom attachment so it can be used year round.

Boguski said crews are prepared and staff will monitor weather conditions on a 24/7 basis.

When it snows, the crews will work round the clock on cleanup efforts throughout the community, with priority given to ‘red routes’ for emergency vehicles and public transportation routes.

DOS is also advising the public from parking on the road whenever possible, which can slow down the snow removal process.

Residents are also reminded that it’s their responsibility to clear snow and ice from sidewalks adjacent to your home or business.

“We always appreciate when sidewalks are promptly cleared and safe for use following a snow event,” she said.
