A BC Supreme Court judge has granted the College of Physicians and Surgeons in British Columbia an injunction to restrain a man from giving botox or presenting himself as a trained medical professional.
The College of Physicians and Surgeons in British Columbia is the regulatory body for all physician and surgeons in the province.
On March 11, 2019, a judge granted the college an injunction against Mehran Ghoreishi, also known as Seyed Mohammadmehran Ghoreishi, from engaging in the unlawful practice of medicine.
Ghoreishi can’t identify as a physician to the public or use any title or description to identify himself as medical professional licenced by the college.
The order states that Vancouver Laser Center and Perfect Look Laser Removal in Vancouver and Complement Healthcare in West Vancouver can’t claim Ghoreishi to be licensed physician in any promotional material or on their websites.
As a non-registrant of the college, Ghoreishi must not administer Botox, dermal fillers or platelet-rich plasma.
He is also prohibited from performing a thread lift, dermabrasion or microdermabrasion procedure or advice anyone of the benefits or the risks of such procedures.
Receiving a medical service such as injections from an unlicensed practitioner is risky and has the potential for complications, including reaction to agents, infections, or greater harm due to human error, the college said in a statement.
The College recommends that any person who is treated by an unlicensed practitioner consult with their family physician to review the treatment/procedure received and the materials used in performing the procedure.
The college is encouraging people to visit their website to verify the credentials and to ensure a physician is registered with the College.
