Squamish Lillooet Regional District is urging people to avoid the Squamish Valley areas as fire crew tackle a fire that is growing, but away from residential area.
The Squamish Valley Road remains open at this time, but the SLRD requests that all non-essential travel in the area be avoided.
“For your safety and to ensure uninterrupted access for BC Wildfire crews and other first responders, we request that all non-essential travel in the area be avoided,” said Sarah Morgan, the SLRD Emergency Program Manager.
Morgan said the fire is currently 15 hectares in size, and it was expected to grow uphill but the important message it is moving from residential properties, she said.
She said 20 more fire personnel have joined the initial attack crew in bringing the fire under control.
They has helicopter bucketing yesterday and that may continue, but the good news is we are expecting rain in the evening,” she said, adding that residents can expect to see more smoke.
“The fire is burning upwards and away from structures and does NOT pose a danger to residents at this time,” she added.
