A Squamish doctor has received a national award that recognizes solid work done by doctors in rural areas.
Dr. John Guilfoyle was one among the 13 doctors in Canada who were honoured with the Rural Service Award.
The Rural Service Award was introduced in 2002 to provide recognition for physicians who live in rural Canada and who have done solid work in rural communities over the years.
The Rural Service Award is presented to physicians who have served rural Canada for 10 years or more.
Dr. Guilfoyle received the award on Friday, April 5, in Halifax.
The annual award is given by the Society of Rural Physicians of Canada
Dr. Nancy Humber of Lillooet was also honored by the SRPC for the Rural Long Service Award, which recognises those physicians who live in and have served rural Canada for 20 years.
