BC Ferries to add 92 extra sailings for long weekend

May 14, 2019 1:37pm

BC Ferries is adding more than 90 extra sailings as well as more staff for the May long weekend.

From May 16 to 20, BC Ferries has scheduled 92 extra sailings on the most popular routes linking Metro Vancouver with Vancouver Island and the Sunshine Coast.

There will be 66 extra sailings on the Tsawwassen – Swartz Bay route, including 6 am sailings on May 16, 17, 18 and 21.

There will be 15 extra sailings on the Vancouver – Nanaimo/Sunshine Coast routes, and 11 extra sailings on the Horseshoe Bay – Langdale route.

The most popular travel times are generally Thursday and Friday afternoon, as well as Saturday morning, with lots of travellers departing from Tsawwassen and Horseshoe Bay terminals.

Historically, Monday afternoon is the most popular time for people to return from Vancouver Island and the Sunshine Coast.

To avoid sailing waits, BC ferries is recommending people to reserve or encourages people to travel outside these times.

Popular sailing time information is available on the Travel Planning pages at bcferries.com.
