If music truly is the food of life, then it’s best shared with others. At least that sounds like the philosophy of local musician Erik Musseau.
On Friday, June 7 at 7:30 pm local pianist, Musseau, will perform his concert “Collaboration and Connection” with musical guests at St. John the Divine Anglican Church in Squamish.
The concert, a Howe Sound Performing Arts Association production, is designed to showcase local talent. Musseau, a long-time Squamish resident and a well-respected piano teacher and accompanist, said that he envisioned this concert quite a while ago.
“I think of it as an opportunity to showcase my love of musical collaborations with some talented local musicians, and to throw in a couple of great piano solos to round out the program,” Musseau said.
Joined by trumpeter Bryan Davies and flautist Kristine Miles, Musseau is planning an energetic program of music that features the piano in both supportive and solo roles.
“The repertoire for the concert includes works of Baroque masters Handel and Scarlatti through to virtuoso flute showpiece by Romanian composer George Enesco. These pieces span about 300 years of musical history, and are stylistically extremely diverse as well as challenging for the performers,” he said.
The concert is the final production for the HSPAA season, and board member Veronica McPhee is excited to have Musseau performing.
“Erik’s piano playing is both technical and highly emotive; his confidence and grace at the keyboard transform the music into a personal experience which he freely shares with the audience,” she said.
Tickets for the concert are $20 and available online through the HSPAA website or at XOCO, 38020 Cleveland Avenue.
