Squamish RCMP issue seven tickets for speeding in school zones

Squamish RCMP conducted routine traffic enforcement in town and issued seven violation tickets for speeding in school zones on January 27.

Police remind that fines for speeding in a school zone range from $196 to $253 for those under 40 km. There is a $368 fine and vehicle impoundment for those going over 40 km.

Police are encouraging the public to slow down in school zones.

Theft of Purse

On January 25, 2020, the Squamish RCMP received a report of a stolen purse from a shopping cart.

The theft occurred inside a store in the 39000 block of Discovery Way. The complainant had her purse inside a re-usable bag inside her cart and when she went to pay, she found out that her purse was missing.

Police are reminding the public to keep an eye on valuables when placed inside the shopping carts. The investigation into this theft is ongoing.

Failure to remain at scene

On January 22, the Squamish RCMP received a report of a hit and run in the 40000 block of Glenalder Place.

A witness saw the driver get out of the vehicle to inspect the damage and then drive away.

The witness wrote down the vehicle’s license plate and called the police. The registered owner of the vehicle was issued a violation ticket for failure to remain at scene of an accident.

Theft from vehicle

On January 26, the Squamish RCMP received a report of a theft from motor vehicle, while parked at Shannon Falls Provincial Park. A passport, wallet and cash were stolen.

Recovered Stolen Vehicle

On January 27, Squamish RCMP received a report of an abandoned vehicle in Lions Bay. Police found out the vehicle was stolen from Penticton. Police have seized the vehicle for a forensic examination and the investigation is ongoing.
