Squamish Days Loggers Sports is looking for volunteers to help create a community festival that has celebrated the logging and forestry history of Squamish for the last 62 years.

The festival takes place from July 31 to August 3, but preparations are a year-round affair, says Jacqulin McNicol, the President of the Squamish Days Sports Association.

“Our core group of volunteers keeps working all through the year. We never really stop the process, and we are always looking for and working with volunteers,” she says.

Although there is a dedicated core group of volunteers who participate every year, McNicol says there is always need for more as people leave town or get busy with other commitments.

“Currently we are looking for a Kids Festival Coordinator, 8km Run Coordinator, Sponsorship Coordinator Assistants and always have room for volunteers leading up to our festival weekend and during the weekend to support all our events,” she said.

McNicol has been a participant as well as a volunteer in the historic festival since 2003. “We are fortunate that the community continues to support the Logger Sports,” she says.

Time commitments for each position vary, but in general preparations for the festival start early in the year and go until September.

McNicol says Squamish Days partners with local community groups and gives back the money raised to charities and non-profits in town.

The Squamish Days Loggers Sports Association is a not-for-profit entity run solely by volunteers, and proceeds from the Squamish Days weekend are  returned to the community by partnering with the following service groups: Elks Club of Squamish, the Howe Sound Curling Club, the Rotary Club of Squamish, the Royal Canadian Legion, the Royal Canadian Marine Search & Rescue, and the Squamish Valley Equestrian Association

“Over the last 62 years the support of the Squamish Days weekend has allowed the Squamish Days Loggers Sports Association to donate over $545,000 to local community groups,” McNicol says.

If you would like to volunteer, email McNicol at celebrate@squamishdays.ca
