Meth found near sidewalk in Squamish; RCMP urges caution

Squamish RCMP is urging the community to be aware of items in their surroundings after police seized meth near a sidewalk.

On February 8, 2020, a small bag of suspected drugs was located near a side walk in Squamish. Police seized the bag, and tested the drug using an ion scanner. Police said the test revealed the drug to be meth.

Squamish RCMP is reminding the public to be aware of items on the ground when walking with small children and pets.

“If suspected drugs are located, don’t touch them and call the police for assistance,” Squamish RCMP said.

Car on fire at Save On Foods
On February 8, 2020, the Squamish RCMP received a report of a car fire in the Save On Foods parking lot. The fire department attended and put out the fire. The fire didn’t deemed suspicious, they determined.

Theft from mailbox
On February 6 and 7, the Squamish RCMP received multiple reports of thefts from community mailboxes throughout town.

Police said an unknown person or more than one person had utilized a tool to gain entry to the mailbox.  In situations like this, police would be concerned about possible identity thefts. More information on identity thefts can be found on the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre’s website. 

Theft of sporting goods
On February 7,  Squamish RCMP received a report of $20,000 worth of various sporting goods stolen from a storage locker on Main Street in Downtown Squamish.
