March 2, 2020 10:08am

BC Ferries customers will soon be able to use debit card as a form of payment at vehicle and foot passenger ticketing areas.

The terminals between Metro Vancouver and Vancouver Island are expected to receive the updated technology by  end of March, BC Ferries said.

Tap and pay for both credit and debit cards will also be available with the installation of new PIN pads, BC Ferries said.

This will help speed the ticketing process for customers with transactions under $100, the company noted.

BC Ferries said the use of debit has been a long-standing demand of customers.

The installation of the new PIN pads is currently underway throughout the fleet, a project that will be complete in spring this year.

Larger terminals will have the technology by the end of March.
