The National Police Federation says it is engaged and is supporting all the members involved in the police incident that led to the death of a man in Whistler on March 8.
“Our thoughts are with those involved and their families. Our members have been treated and released with minor injuries,” the federation said.
“The police officers involved in the incident have met with investigators from the Independent Investigations Office of BC. The NPF welcomes the investigation into these events specifically as well as recognizing the importance of civilian oversight.”
The National Police Federation (NPF) represents 20,000 RCMP members serving across Canada, and is the largest police labour relations organization in Canada.
On March 8, 2020, Whistler RCMP officers attended a local business after receiving a complaint of a drunk man causing a disturbance.
Police officers deployed OC spray, a taser and used their batons in an effort to gain control of him.
According to the RCMP, the man suddenly became still and officers began CPR and called emergency health services.
The IIO BC is now investigating to determine whether police actions or inactions are linked to the man’s death.
