Power outage affects over 4,000 people in town; wind warning continues

staff report
March 14, 2020 7:05am

BC Hydro is assigning crews to two areas in Squamish where over 4,000 customers are without power.

BC Hydro says 1,639 customers are affected by power outage east of Squamish Valley Road because of a tree across the wires.

As many as 2,762 customers are also out of power east of Edgewater Drive, although the cause is under investigation.

Meanwhile, the wind warning for Howe Sound continues.

Cold arctic air moving southwards from the BC Interior will push out through Howe Sound this weekend.

Northerly winds will gust to 80 km/h except to 100 near Bowen Island this morning and then diminish somewhat this afternoon.

Winds will gust up to 90 km/h again near Bowen Island overnight and early Sunday morning.

Loose objects may be tossed by the wind and cause injury or damage. Be prepared to adjust your driving with changing road conditions due to high winds.

To report severe weather, send an email to BCstorm@canada.ca or tweet reports using #BCStorm.
