ICBC will insure vehicles over the phone due to COVID-19

Staff report
March 18, 2020 5:42pm

ICBC customers will now be able to insure their vehicles and cancel or change policy over the phone due to concerns over the spread of COVID-19.

Customers can also receive transactions by email, submit signatures electronically, submit payments by phone, and receive policy documents by email.

ICBC customers are advised to give themselves ample time for renewals, as the transaction may take longer than usual.

Those who have questions should contact ICBC at 250 978-8300 or toll-free at 1 800 950-1498.

The driver’s licence renewals will still have to be done in person, but ICBC said it is working on providing that option as well.

More ICBC services are expected to move online, including a more permanent process for insurance renewals.

Many brokers, however, will remain open for business for those who want to visit in person or for transactions that cannot be done over the phone, such as vehicle registrations.
