District of Squamish bylaw officers will be patrolling busy areas in town this long weekend.
Patrols will also take place high volume recreation areas with a clear message to visitors and locals alike: please don’t congregate, and stay close to home for everyone’s safety.
They will be patrolling independently from the Squamish RCMP, said Christina Moore, the district communications manager. However, all agencies are coordinating together to maximize the response, she added.
Calls to the RCMP non-emergency line will be dispatched to bylaw as relevant or required.
Moore said Squamish will see a joint response from Squamish RCMP, the Conservation Officer Service, Natural Resource Officers, Fisheries Officers and District Bylaw Officers this long weekend.
“All agencies are working together to have a larger presence at recreational and camping hubs to demonstrate the seriousness of the message,” said District of Squamish Mayor Karen Elliott.
Beginning today, Squamish RCMP will also increase patrol and its presence at local and provincial parks, on Crown land, waterways, and on Whistler Blackcomb ski hill.
Additional RCMP officers will also patrol the Sea to Sky Corridor over the weekend from North of Pemberton to Lions Bay.
