District of Squamish is putting plans in place to support the evacuation of livestock following the Squamish Valley fire.

Residents of the Squamish and Paradise Valleys who need to evacuate livestock can contact 604-815-4995 for more information.

Meanwhile, a local business, Canine Valley, has also opened its doors to livestock evacuees. The centre recently received its first evacuees, chickens, and is also making its dog centre available to people.

“Our dog centre is available to help any of the evacuees who need shelter for their animals. Please call us right away at 604-250-5097,” Canine Valley said.

Meanwhile, according to a district update posted on April 16 at at 9:15 pm, Paradise Valley residents remain on evacuation alert.

The fire is being held at the snowline on the Squamish Valley side and has not crossed the ridge to threaten Paradise Valley. The BC Wildfire Service is also reporting that the fire has not shown any growth and the fire behaviour is low.

The Upper Squamish Valley residents who have evacuated but have not checked into designated hotels are asked to call 604-815-4931 to register for services.

As many as 37 firefighters, three helicopters, three excavators and a Structural Protection Unit are working to suppress the fire.

The district has also established an Emergency Operations Centre (EOC), and is collaborating with its partner agencies on the fire response.
