Squamish Valley fire is now 35% contained, according to the latest update from BC Wildfire Service. However, it is still classified as ‘Out of Control’.

The term describes a wildfire that isn’t responding, or responding on a limited basis, to suppression in a way that the perimeter spread is not being contained.

There has been no growth on the fire as the weather continues to be cool with only light wind.

Meanwhile, Squamish RCMP said it will be on scene this weekend and will restrict the area to essential travel only.

There is a security checkpoint at the 12-kilometre mark of the Squamish Valley Road, and no unauthorized vehicles will be allowed past this point.
