Squamish RCMP are urging vigilance after a local citizen was targeted by scamsters.
A local resident received a spoof text from what appeared to be her phone company.
The text had a link that asked her to update her Social Insurance Number and provide personal banking information.
The resident gave that information and was notified by her bank of a pending e-transfer of a large sum of money.
The resident contacted the bank to stop the transfer and then reported the scam to police.
In these types of incidents, Squamish RCMP say they also recommend contacting Equifax or Trans Union, and the Canadian Anti-Fraud Agency to prevent future frauds.
Mobile phone found
On April 6, a resident turned in an iPhone X, which was found at Mamquam Road and Highlands Way North.
Squamish RCMP will keep the phone for 90 days and then dispose it, unless claimed.
Community patrols continue
The Squamish RCMP Detachment remains closed, but many services remain available, police say. Police officers continue to patrol businesses and local neighborhoods .
The public can contact the Squamish detachment at 604-892-6100 to speak with a staff member for services.
