Squamish Valley fire is “Being Held”

staff report
April 21, 2020 12:41pm

The Squamish Valley fire is now being described as“Being Held”, which means sufficient suppression has taken place and the fire is not likely to spread.

The fire is also ranked as Rank 1, which means it is a smouldering ground fire, with no open flame or white smoke and is being considered a slow-burning fire.

Crews will now attack the fire using hand tools such as pumps and hose.

Meanwhile, the checkpoint at the 12-kilometre mark on the Squamish Valley Road has been lifted but only those with business or homes in the area should enter the area while crews are working.

A thermal scan of the fire was completed yesterday and crews are working to locate residual hotspots as of now, according to an update by BC Wildfire Service.
