District of Squamish has received a development permit application for a new industrial building in the business park.

The application is for construction of one eight-unit light industrial building, featuring a ‘magnificent decorative heavy timber and lots of windows’.

The building called 7 Skies will be located at 39319 Queens Way. opposite the commercial plaza featuring Backcountry Brewing and Tall Tree bakery, etc.

The building is geared towards smaller tenants or medium sized ones, with the units that can be amalgamated or divided. A mezzanine upstairs can be used for office space or for research or development, according to the developer.

Two variances are sought for the proposed 1,785 square metre building.

One variance is to removes the requirement for parking islands within the parking lot. The second variance removes the need for a two-metre landscape buffer along the south and west property lines because of right of way.

The zoning permits light industrial uses such as automobile oriented commercial, heavy equipment sales, motor vehicle repair shops, warehouse, and alcohol beverage manufacturing.

The site immediately to the north has also been approved for a multi-bay industrial building, while the site to the south contains two light industrial buildings.
