Squamish sees record-breaking heat

staff report
May 11, 2020 1:16pm

Squamish area was among 17 Metro Vancouver communities that set a new daily heat record on May 10.

The Squamish area was also the second hottest area in BC.

According to Environment Canada, the Squamish area recorded a new high of 30.1 C on May 10.

The old record of 28 C was set last year in 2019, and records have been kept since 1960.

Squamish was a close second to be the hottest place in the province after Hope area, which recorded a 30.2 C.

Abbotsford, Comox, Courtenay, Port Hardy, Victoria, and White Rock were among communities in Vancouver Island and Metro Vancouver where heat records were smashed.

Environment Canada said the temperature records are from a selection of historical stations and the results are preliminary.

After few days of blazing heat, good old rain is on the way for Squamish.
