The Squamish Public Library has started a new take-out service.

Patrons will be able to pick up books and other material from curbside starting today.

Patrons can place a hold on library items through the online catalogue, and they will be contacted by library staff for contactless curbside pickup.

The items can then be collected from the back of the library, following special physical distancing procedures.

A friend or a family member can also pick up the order, although the library reminds that patrons are responsible for all the checked-out items.

To place a hold on the item, log into your account, search or browse for items, and then click a “Place a Hold” on the desired item.

Library staff will be in touch as soon as the hold is ready. Please note that when you log into the catalogue for the first time, the default PIN will be the last 4-digits of your phone number.

Library will also limit the number of appointments per half-hour pickup windows.

“If you see others picking up their order, please wait on one of the physical distancing markers until it is safe to proceed towards the door. Only one person is permitted in the pick-up area at a time,” the library said.

Meanwhile, the library’s return slot will remain open 24/7 and patrons who wish to return their items may do so.

However, all items will continue to have a July 3 due date. Once materials are returned to the library, they will be isolated for at least 72 hours in order to follow health and safety recommendations.

“We are looking forward to safely re-connecting with our patrons and providing access to library materials. Staff will be available by phone and email to support you in selecting materials and arranging pick-up,” the library said.
