The District of Squamish plans to extend the lease for a local tourism attraction in Squamish.

The district has given notice that it intends to grant a three-year-and-four-month lease extension to Rope Runner Inc., the aerial adventure activity on Loggers Lane near the Squamish Adventure Centre.

The lease will be extended from July 2, 2020 to November 2, 2025.

The lease extension will provide approximately 6,696 square feet land for the purpose of an aerial ropes course for a minimum basic lease rate of $23,216.21 per year, with an additional percentage rent of 4% of the tenant’s gross sales above $405,000 per year.

Rope Runner was approved in 2017 with a height variance by the previous council.

A variance allowed the proponent to increase the maximum allowable height of the structure from 10.68 metre to 17.51 metre to accommodate the rope course structure. Staff supported the variance, saying the additional height was necessary to achieve the purpose of the aerial high rope activities.

Meanwhile, council has granted a tender for two watermain projects to the Coast Mountain Excavation for upgrades for $628,878 plus 15% contingency.

The annual program is aimed at ensuring the district’s watermain infrastructure is maintained and upgraded in order to meet the needs of the community, district said.

The project was awarded for two sites: Government Road, in front of the public works yard, where the watermain is at the end of life and requires replacement; and Plateau Reservoir Control Valve replacement, where the valve is aging and not able to last for the remaining life expectancy of the reservoir.
