BC Parks is planning to reopen two more provincial parks in Squamish next week.

Shannon Falls and Porteau Cove Provincial parks are expected to reopen on Monday, June 1.

Stawamus Chief Provincial park and Murrin Park opened with limited facilities few weeks ago along with Alice Lake Provincial Park and Brackendale Eagles Provincial Park.

BC Parks has closed access to the backside trail and the peaks of the Chief, but the park is open for rock-climbing and picnicking.

Meanwhile, parking has also been reduced by 50% at the Chief to maintain physical distancing. BC Parks is reminding people to early on weekdays to ensure a parking spot.

Garibaldi Provincial Park still remains closed.

In the region, Nairn Falls, Callaghan Lake and Birkenhead Provincial Parks reopen on June 1. However, the popular tourist destination, Joffres Lake park, remains closed.

Yesterday, the provincial camping reservation system started accepting reservations, although it was marred by technical glitches.

BC also announced that new reservations can only be made by BC residents.

To allow physical distancing, fewer campsites will be available in some campgrounds, and there may be some changes to services and communal facilities.
