Join the district’s Economic Leadership Team

staff report
May 27, 2020 1:57pm

The District of Squamish is looking for locals to join a voluntary Economic Leadership Team that will comprise members with local expertise and passion in economic development-related fields from innovation, marketing, land use and development.

The Economic Leadership Team will provide advice and expertise on stimulating the local economy and creating diverse local jobs.

The team will consist of up to 10 voluntary members and include additional ex-officio representation from all levels of government.

At a minimum, it is expected that the team will convene four times a year. The term is ongoing and the positions are voluntary.

The team will advise on how to build on existing strategic work by the district and its partners, including the Squamish Sector Action Plan, the Employment Space Demand Model, Sector Impact Studies, the Community Climate Action Plan for Squamish, partnership and business development efforts.

The focus will include increasing employment lands and jobs in the next two years.  The group will also advise on how to support the district’s climate targets and reduce community greenhouse gases by 45% by 2030, 65% by 2040 and 100% by 2050.

Following the unprecedented economic impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, the focus of the team this year will be to adapt and build upon existing strategic economic development actions to ensure local recovery and build in future resiliency actions.

Those interested in joining the team can email the district with a 300-word submission explaining their interest. Two references are also required.

The deadline to apply is Friday, May 29.
