Recreational facilities will start opening by September.
staff report
June 20, 2020 12:59pm

The swimming pool at the Brennan Park Recreation Centre could possibly open in the fall with reduced capacity.

District is eyeing a September opening for the pool, but with 40% to 50% capacity for public swims with physical distancing and controlled access.

Swimming lessons won’t be offered, and steam room and the teach pool will be closed. District will also implement increased sanitation and plans to modify change room use.

The changes in September are part of a Level 3 of a restart plan for outdoor and recreation facilities.

District will follow Provincial Health Orders and weigh reasonable public demand for services, and employee and public safety measures before slowly opening up facilities.

By this winter or the spring of 2021, district hopes to open the swimming pool to 60% capacity for public swims with physical distancing and controlled access.

Swimming lesson will be offered at 30% to 50% capacity, the sauna will open for limited use, and seniors can swim along with other vulnerable members.

User groups can begin to access the ice rink in modified ways in September. There will also be gradual reopening of the sports fields and The 55 recreation facility this fall.

However, the opening of district’s recreation facilities will depend on the number of COVID-19 cases and the provincial legislation regarding the pandemic.

The Squamish Adventure Centre is now open daily from 8:30 am to 4:30 pm, and so is Caffe Garibaldi from 8:30 am to 3:30 pm.

The Squamish Store in the adventure centre is also now open daily from 8:30 am to 4:30 pm
