staff report
August 7, 2020 12:27pm

The District of Squamish is creating extra parking spaces near the hospital to manage parking demand in the area.

The parking spaces will be created as part of a district project to build the temporary fire hall at the intersection of Guildford and Clarke Drive.

The district didn’t specify on the number of parking spaces that will be created.

The district is building a new fire hall, emergency operations centre and administration building on the site of the current Alex Munro Fire Hall in Valleycliffe.

A temporary fire hall will be built in Valleycliffe for continued fire protection during construction of the new building.

“In conjunction with the hospital, additional parking spaces will be created to manage parking demand in the area,” the district said.

The temporary fire hall construction will continue until October this year, and locals can expect traffic delays.

The district is urging people to plan their route around the work area whenever possible to avoid delays.

The project began in July and will continue till October. The construction of the permanent fire hall is planned to be completed by the summer of 2022.

The new fire hall in Valleycliffe will be the new Squamish Fire Rescue headquarters.

The district will also move to the new headquarters the fire and emergency program as well as the emergency operations centre, which currently operates out of the RCMP building.
