Squamish Fire Rescue is hiring firefighters

staff report
August 19, 2020 3:47pm

Squamish Fire Rescue is looking for positive, energetic and community-minded citizens to join its team of dedicated paid on-call firefighters.

The fire rescue has been training locally minded people in their goals of serving Squamish as firefighters for over 100 years.

“Our professional training and on the job experience is a unique opportunity to learn and develop skills as team members, leaders, and highly-skilled firefighters,” the organisation said.

The recruitment will continue from August 17 to October 5.

Those who are selected will commit to the Squamish Fire Rescue for at least three years.

Successful candidates will begin an intense six-month training program starting in January and will be trained in accordance with the Justice Institute of BC Fire Academy module certification system.

Training sessions will be held weekly and will include drills that are physically demanding, and some home study is also required.

“In exchange for your time and commitment, you will be rewarded with strong community support, the knowledge that you are making a real difference by protecting our residents and visitors, and a truly amazing sense of accomplishment and pride,” the fire rescue said.

There is no cost to the student and all training and materials are provided as part of a three-year commitment to Squamish Fire Rescue.

Squamish Fire Rescue will conduct detailed reference checks before offering positions to selected candidates.
