September 2, 2020 9:50am

Woodfibre LNG has awarded $29,000 to several local charity groups and community organizations as part of the company’s Community Sponsorship Program.

Woodfibre LNG has awarded grants to 14 local groups, which are:

Sea to Sky Forestry Centre Society

The Squamish Hospital Foundation

Howe Sound Marine Rescue Society

Crisis Centre and Suicide Prevention Centre of British Columbia

Squamish Seniors Centre Society

Ècole Squamish Elementary

Pride Squamish

4th Squamish Scout Group

Skate Sea2Sky Club

Second Chance Cheekye Ranch

The Yoga Bunny

Axemen Rugby Club

Squamish Air Cadet Squadron

Airhouse Sports Academy Squamish

“This year, our Community Sponsorship Program has been more important than ever, as we all come to terms with the devastating economic effects of the global pandemic,” said David Keane, President of Woodfibre LNG.

“It is a priority for us at Woodfibre to continue to support our local schools, services and organizations that make a vital contribution to the community of which we are proud to be a part. In May and June we received over a dozen applications, and we are thrilled to be able to provide funding to so many well-deserving local organizations.”

Woodfibre LNG opened 2020 Community Sponsorship Grant Program submissions earlier than usual this year, and extended the application period, the company said.

The company also ran a community voting contest on Facebook asking the local community to choose which organization should receive an additional $1,000 on top of their grant.

Over one thousand votes were cast during the week-long contest, and Axemen Rugby Club was declared as the winner.
