Staff report
September 21, 2020 12:35pm

District of Squamish councillors will be conducting their next Committee of the Whole meetings on their bikes.

The committee meeting includes a bike tour so councillors can gain a first-hand perspective on Active Transportation routes in the district.

They will also receive an update on current Active Transportation projects underway in Squamish.

The bike tours starts at Garibaldi Highlands and ends in Downtown Squamish.

There will be introduction at Perth Drive and Pia Road, and councillors will then bike along the following roads:

Portree Way

Highlands Way Corridor

Mamquam Road at Diamond Head Road

Mamquam Road west of Highway 99

Railwoods Trail

Pioneer Way

Industrial Way at Highway 99 and Finch Drive

Discovery Trail

Hunter Place Trail and Pemberton Ave

District of Squamish adopted the Active Transportation Plan in 2016 with an aim to increase transportation options in the community.

The plan also aims to provide an accessible, sustainable and efficient transportation system for all users, including commuter cycling, walking, wheelchairs, scooters, walkers and strollers.

Expanding and enhancing the sidewalk and bike network direction, enhancing north-south, and east-west connectivity for walking and biking, improving road safety and enhancing wayfinding, signage and trip planning are some other key elements of the plan.
