36 cases of COVID-19 so far in Howe Sound region

Staff report
September 30, 2020 10:49am

There have been 36 cases of COVID-19 in the Howe Sound health region, which includes Squamish, Whistler and Pemberton.

The Howe Sound region is a smaller health region under the Coast Garibaldi Health Region, which includes the Sea to Sky and the Sunshine Coast communities.

The numbers of cases reported in Howe Sound region are from January to August this year.

The cases are mapped by the location of residence, and cases with unknown residence or out of province are not mapped, according to the BC Centre for Disease Control (BCCDC).

The number of cases in the region may not represent the location of the exposure. For example, people may have acquired the disease while travelling or working elsewhere, says BCCDC.

The latest data for specific health regions was released by BCCDC on September 17.

Vancouver Coastal Health has also included two schools in Squamish and one in Pemberton on its COVID-19 exposure warning list.

Yesterday, Dr. Bonnie Henry, the provincial health officer, announced one new health-care facility outbreak at Haro Park Centre in Vancouver.

There were no new community outbreaks, but there continue to be community exposure events around the province.

“This year is unique for all of us, and COVID-19 has required that we connect and show we care in new and different ways,” she said

“We have had to change our special celebrations and gatherings to keep the people we care about safe. This same approach is how we need to celebrate Thanksgiving this year. Rather than travelling to see friends or hosting a large family dinner, make it small this year and plan to connect virtually instead,” she said.
