District of Squamish is urging caution after a bear was photographed sleeping near a local trail.

“This bear was photographed earlier today sleeping under a tree RIGHT beside the trail along the edge of the Mamquam River spawning channels and golf course,” district said.

“Bears are actively feeding on salmon in this area and throughout the various trail networks as salmon is an important food source prior to bears going into hibernation.”

Please be extra alert and aware when recreating, and keep dogs leashed and on trail, district adds.

Please call the Conservation Officer Service 24/7 hotline with any sightings or encounters at: 1.877.952.7277.
