“Holy Moly”: West Vancouver man claims $9.3 million Lotto 6/49 win

Staff report
February 12, 2021 4:17pm

West Vancouver resident Leslie Hasman needed to take a closer look at his Lotto 6/49 ticket from the December 30, 2020 draw after he scanned it and saw several zeros.

Without his reading glasses on, he couldn’t be sure just how many zeros he was seeing.

“I asked the cashier to print out the winning numbers, I put them in my pocket, and then I went to buy a few groceries,” Hasman recalled.

“I have no idea what I ended up buying.”

Once back home from the 7-Eleven on Marine Drive, where he both purchased and checked the ticket, Hasman took a closer look at the draw information, including the winning numbers 7, 14, 30, 32, 38 and 45, and the ticket purchase location – West Vancouver.

He couldn’t believe what he was seeing. “Holy Moly! That’s got to be me,” he said.

Hasman purchased the ticket in a $10 Lotto pack, and won selecting his own numbers.

The West Vancouver resident says he will celebrate by treating his family with a trip to Hawaii once it’s safe to travel, but in the meantime he would like to buy a new barbeque.

Hasman also plans to donate some of his prize to hospitals in the Lower Mainland.

In 2020, B.C. lottery players redeemed more than $106 million in winnings from Lotto 6/49.
