Skier rescued from Elfin Lake, suffers extensive exposure injury

A Squamish backcountry skier is being treated for extensive exposure injuries after being rescued from Elfin Lake area today.

Squamish RCMP was contacted about the lost skier yesterday around 11:30 pm yesterday.

The skier was solo touring in the Elfin Lakes area, Squamish RCMP said.

Police were able to locate the man’s vehicle in the parking lot leading to the Upper Elfin Lakes Trail.

Since today early morning, Squamish SAR, Lions Bays SAR, North Shore Rescue, Whistler SAR, and Pemberton SAR had been searching for the man in tough and hazardous terrain.

He was located around 5 pm on upper Mamquam Road and is being treated for extensive exposure.

Meanwhile, one person has died in an avalanche today at the Blackcomb Glacier in Whistler.
