Parts of Corridor Trail to be repaved

District of Squamish plans to repave sections of Corridor Rrail as part of the 2021 special projects budget.

The district plans to repave eroded, cracked and lifted sections of Corridor Trail and other active transportation routes.

“Root intrusion, erosion and frost heave have caused some sections of the Corridor Trail to crack and lift creating trip and fall hazards for users,” the district says.

The district also plans to upgrade the north side of Mamquam Road between Government and Highway 99 to include storm, curb, gutter, sidewalk and protected bike lane.

Minor improvements will also be made to the south side.

The district is also planning to install safety signage and netting for hardball field due to the risks to residents.

“Home runs and foul balls from the men’s hardball field are aimed directly at Brennan Park parking lot, SORCA skills park and mini skate park,” the district says.

It is also planning to buy a new garbage truck, a new 550 Haul-All.

As of 2019, the district owned and serviced 153 cans, and there are new requests for extra cans from 2020 at bus stops, bike hubs, trail heads and other high-use recreational areas.

“Labourers have to throw bags of garbage totaling up to 600 kg per day overhead into a truck. This work puts staff at high risk for repetitive strain and other types of injury,” says the district.

The district also plans to replace a Freightliner M2 Tandem Dump Truck, which will come with snow-and-ice-control equipment.
