Council rejects Cheema Lands application in 5-2 vote

March 3, 2021 7:58am

District of Squamish council voted 5-2 on March 2 to reject granting first reading to a proposal by Cheema Lands to amend the OCP.

Mayor Karen Elliott and Councillors Doug Race, Chris Petingill, Armand Hurford and Jenna Stoner voted against the application.

Councillors Eric Andersen and John French supported the application.

The application by Cheema Lands called to amend the OCP by expanding the Growth Management Boundaries to include Lots DL 509 and 510, known as the Cheema Lands.

Cheema Lands also asked for a change in OCP designation for the land, from Future Residential Neighborhood to Residential Neighborhood.

The proposal was first discussed at a Committee of the Whole meeting in December 2020, but was rejected by council.

Cheema Lands made a similar application in 2017, but it was defeated at first reading in 2018.
