Oceanfront Squamish has submitted a development permit application for a new commercial building at the oceanfront.
This building will feature a presentation centre at the south end of the Oceanfront Peninsula.
The proposed building is located in the Village Centre, and will have a presentation area, a sales center with an observation deck, and a restaurant with a small brewery.
Since the project is providing 100% employment space outside of the Sea to Sky Business Park, the application is being considered a priority.
“It is being processed under the Priority Development Policy and projects that are deemed priority projects are only required to make one visit to ADP,” says a staff report to council.
The presentation centre will be a two-storey building with a partial third storey containing a viewing deck.
The eastern portion of the site will host a two-storey restaurant with a small area for brewing.
The building will be constructed of mass timber and a combination of glass railings and landscaping are being proposed by the developers to shield outdoor dining from wind exposure.
The building proposes to integrate both wind and photo-voltaic energy generation, according to the staff report.
The westernmost part of the site borders a future public plaza that transitions into the future Oceanfront Park.
Oceanfront Squamish is also proposing a new hotel on oceanfront, though there is no timeline yet.
