Squamish RCMP to use bait car in town after spate of thefts

Squamish RCMP is on a heightened alert after four vehicle thefts in one week in town.

Police has dedicated resources to catch car thieves through enhanced patrols, says Cpl. Angela Kermer of the Outreach and Investigation Team.

Kermer said the local police will also be utilizing bait program to arrest those responsible for the recent spate of cat thefts in town.

Between March 9 and 16, Squamish RCMP received four complaints, each occurring sometime overnight in various neighbourhoods:

On March 9, near Bailey St. And Third Ave, there was a theft of a black 2001 ladder Ford truck, BC licence plate EK6384, and the words Alta Lake Electric painted in red on the sides.

On March 10, in the 1900 block Maple Drive, there was a theft of a grey 2006 Toyota Sienna, BC licence plate LM108L.

On March 10, in the 38000 block of Hemlock Avenue, there was a theft involving a blue 2005 Chevrolet Aveo, BC licence plate FG678B.

On March 14, in the 38000 block Eaglewind Blvd, there was a theft of a grey 2000 F350 truck, BC licence plate 3334KV.

Local police is asking residents to secure their cars, leave no valuables or keys inside, and to report any suspicious activity to police.
