The Conservation Officer Service will be patrolling the Estuary Wildlife Management Area this weekend.
COS will be reminding people of the regulations in place to help protect the sensitive habitat for fish and wildlife species.
“This includes no off-leash dogs, motorized vehicles, camping or fires. Please remember to #knowtheregs before you head out,” COS said.
The Skwelwil’em Squamish Estuary Wildlife Management Area (WMA) is a 673 hectare area located at the head of Howe Sound.
It is a highly productive ecosystem, and provides wintering, migration, feeding and breeding habitats for waterfowl and shore birds, as well as for raptors, passerines and other species.
It is also a feeding, spawning and rearing ground for a variety of fish species, including provincially significant species such as Eulachon, Steelhead and salmon.
It is also provides habitat for a number of other species including Black-tailed Deer, Black Bear, Cougar, Coyote, moles, voles, and rabbits.
Endangered species found in the estuary include Peregrine Falcon, Marbled Murrelet, and Keen’s Long-eared Myotis.
