A long-term care home facility in West Vancouver will be shutting down next year. Capilano Care Centre on Clyde Avenue will close by April 6, 2022.
Revera, the company that runs the centre, says they have provided the required one-year notice to Vancouver Coastal Health and BC Ministry of Health.
“In the interest of the long-term safety and well-being of residents and employees, Revera has made the difficult decision to begin the process to close Capilano Care Centre,” said Larry Roberts, the director of communications.
“We will work closely with VCH to help plan and support the needs of our residents as they move to other care homes,” Roberts says.
Capilano will close by April 6, 2022 or once all residents have transitioned.
Roberts says the decision to close the centre was made because of the aging building that has an an outdated design, including ward-style rooms, which don’t meet resident expectations and the modern standards required to support increasingly complex care.
“Capilano is simply too old to attempt to renovate, and redeveloping on the same site would displace residents for a long time and finding suitable land within a reasonable distance has proven unsuccessful,” he says.
